Updates & What To Know

COVID-19 Precautions/Updates
‘In House’ worship services have begun at 9:00AM in the Sanctuary (a blended worship service) and 11:00AM in the church gymnasium (The Gathering) on Sundays.
The church office is currently open; however, measures are being taken to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus  including frequent disinfecting of door handles, light switches, faucet handles, and other similar high-touch areas.  We ask those coming into the building to exercise good hygiene and social distancing and, if possible, to wear a mask.  If you are feeling ill at all, please stay home.
For all activities, people ages 10 and up are asked to wear a mask.
Services will be posted online weekly.  For regular updates, cancellations, etc., please see the HOME page or the church Facebook page, ‘First United Methodist Church of Uvalde.’

Beginning in September
Starting September 6th, the Contemporary worship service will be held at 9:00AM in the Sanctuary.  Traditional worship will be held at 11:00AM in the Sanctuary.
Sunday school for all ages (3 years old and potty-trained, youth, and adult) will resume in person at 10:00AM.  Children may be checked into the Children’s Welcome Center between 9:50 and 10:00AM.  Youth meet upstairs in the youth classrooms in the CLC.  For a list of adult classes, please see the Ministries section.  To begin your own adult Sunday school class, please call the church to secure a classroom and materials.
The church nursery will also resume operations on September 6th.  This will include Emmaus gatherings and bible studies.  Every child’s temperature will be taken prior to entry.
God’s Kids Choir and The Lord’s Supper meal program resume with distancing and safety precautions in place.  For God’s Kids Choir, children under 10 will be required to wear masks because they will be singing.

The Gathering
A different type of Sunday fellowship has begun in the gym (Weston Hall) at 11:00AM on Sunday mornings.  All are welcome, however this gathering time for seekers is designed to be extremely relaxed (not too church-y!).  If you or someone you know is desiring to know more about Jesus but is not so comfortable in a traditional church setting, this is for you.  There is a play area for children and coffee and refreshments.

Handicap Access Parking
The lot to the north of the Sanctuary is for handicap and special needs access.  Parents of young children desiring close access to the nursery are also encouraged to park in this north lot.

New Studies / Groups
Check out our ‘Bible Studies’ section under the ‘Get Connected’ tab above for the latest information on our new studies and groups.

Nursery News. . .
Parents (COVID-19 UPDATE), please WAIT to enter the nursery until a care giver checks your child’s temperature.  Also, please apply hand sanitizer, available outside of the nursery, prior to checking your child in and out and prior to checking out and in a pager.
Some reminders for parents utilizing the nursery include: parents or guardians must sign children in and out of the nursery (not siblings); the Sunday morning nursery accommodates infants through 3  years of age only; nursery for Bible studies, meetings, and other events may accommodate children 12 and under, however infants and toddlers will be cared for separately from older children. If it is your first time to use the nursery or you need to update your child’s care needs, please fill out a child care card; and, remember to take and return a pager in case of emergency. If you know you are in need of child care for any church event, please contact Bethany Suarez in advance at 278-3135.
